1)Clinker may be accumulated on top silo. Frequent cleaning required to reduce the load. 2) Frequent welding koints welding condition to be checked. Because DDPC pulling forces will be there. 3) Hot clinker fumes will be there and MS martial will be weakened. Anti Rusthe paint to be done every year. 4) Centre shafts design shall be there being a structural roof. By central shafts design fugitive dust can be avoided and it will not harm the steel stuctures. P. MuralI Mohan , 9493411892.
During last on decade, number of clinker silo roof had collapsed.
There is no point in beating the BUSH?
Main reason of failures are concluded due to poor structural fabrication and erection at plant sites. Since the plant owner engineers are reluctant to carry out the required stage inspection during Fabrication and Erection; DUE TO HEIGHT.
It is human nature that the engineers are not carrying out the desired quality checks due to climbing at the heights.
These job are left to the mercy of fabrication & erection contractor.
All the mechanical contractors are normally deploying the welders, WITHOUT CHECKING THEIR WELDING SKILL?
It is MANDATORY that such structures at various heights, Welders must be qualified and the welding quality is to be TESTED prior to deploying them on any erection jobs at height.
I hope that the explanation will suffice the diagnosis of this failure.
There have been many solos constructed with similar designs and still functioning. There are three main reasons 1. Sliding bearing of deep pan conveyor is jammed due to dust Accumulation , leading to Thrust from supported pan conveyor.
2. Overfilling of silos with hot clinker up to truss level leading to sagging of crucial bracing members. There is no camera inside to monitor the stock level inside. 3. During erection phase, many weldings are done at roof level bracings by welders. Hence quality may get compromised apart from missed out welding. There are many silo roofs which are assembled ( about500mt) at ground level and lifted to final position with the help of lifting stations. ACC wadi clinker silo and L&T Tadpatri such lifting was done. I was involved in construction of many cement plants. Anil Banchhor
Possible reasons could be, 1. Too much spillage / poor maintenance at DPC silo inlet side. 2. Dust accumulation 3. Heat abrasion More details with photos prior to accident, drawings, age of silo can help see through appropriate things.
Silo roof collapse are getting more common these days.
It seems that only few roof’s modules were connected toghether.
Do we have any structural design drawing, site photos before accident?
Generally can’t say about collapse without see before collapse condition or drawing of silo.
Could it possible to provide structural detailed drawings to evaluate
